New York City Marathon 2025 Results
The 2025 edition of the New York City Marathon, held on November 2nd, 2025, made history as a day of record-breaking performances and fierce competition. The course, known for its challenging climbs on bridges and in Central Park, traditionally forced a tactical race, but the elite runners delivered an unforgettable experience for the spectators.
Women’s Elite: Hellen Obiri’s Historic Course Record
In the women’s race, the favorites quickly formed a strong lead pack. The decisive battle took place between three decorated Kenyans: Hellen Obiri, Sharon Lokedi, and Sheila Chepkirui, who consistently pulled away from the rest of the field, including the likes of Sifan Hassan. Although Fiona O’Keeffe (USA) maintained a presence, the final phase in Central Park was a Kenyan masterclass.
Obiri’s game-winning move came in the final kilometer. Hellen Obiri (KEN) triumphed with a phenomenal time of 2:19:51, successfully setting a new New York City Marathon course record. Sharon Lokedi was second (2:20:07), and Sheila Chepkirui finished third (2:20:24). American O’Keeffe earned a well-deserved fourth place (2:22:49) on her debut.

Men’s Elite: Kipruto Wins the Sprint War
The men’s competition started conservatively, reaching the halfway mark at 1:05:18. However, an aggressive attack by American Hilary Bor in the second half successfully fractured the large leading group. This proved surprising for many, as it caused several favorites, including Eliud Kipchoge, to drop back. Ultimately, the battle for the title was fought between three Kenyans and debutant Patrick Dever (GBR) in the final miles.
The winner was Benson Kipruto (KEN), who narrowly outsprinted Alexander Mutiso (KEN) right at the finish line. Both were clocked with the identical time of 2:08:09. Third place went to Albert Korir (2:08:57), confirming the strength of the Kenyan marathon contingent.
