New York City Marathon 2025: Bag Pre-Check Information
Runners preparing for the marathon could choose one of two options: Bag Pre-Check or No-Bag (Poncho). Registration for the selected option took place through the NYRR panel and closed on September 9.
IMPORTANT: THERE WILL BE NO BAG DROP ON RACE DAY!
Runners will NOT be able to drop a bag at the start on race morning, and it will NOT be transported to the finish. No exceptions!
How the Bag Pre-Check Option Works
This option was for runners who wanted access to their belongings at the finish. Runners who registered for this option must drop off their bag in person before race day.
- Bag Drop-off (Before Race Day): Friday, October 31 AND Saturday, November 1, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM only.
- Location: Central Park West (between West 69th and West 70th Street).
- Bag Pick-up (After the Race): Bags can be collected at the same location after finishing the race.
- FINAL DEADLINE: Bag Pre-Check closes Saturday, November 1 at 5:00 PM. No exceptions!
No-Bag Option (Poncho)
Runners who chose this option (or did not register for Bag Pre-Check) will not drop off a bag. After crossing the finish line, they will receive a thermal poncho. Runners who used Bag Pre-Check will also receive a poncho.
FAQ – Bag Pre-Check for the 2025 NYC Marathon
What bag can I use for Bag Pre-Check?
You MUST use the official Bag Pre-Check bag provided at the Marathon Expo. No other bags will be accepted.
Can I drop off a bag at the start on race morning?
No. Absolutely not. There will be no bag transport from the start to the finish on race day. Bag Pre-Check on Fri/Sat is the ONLY option for checking a bag.
What items are not allowed in the Bag Pre-Check bag?
Do not pack perishable items such as fruit or vegetables. Review the official NYRR prohibited items list as well.
Is NYRR responsible for lost bags?
NYRR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bags or items placed inside Bag Pre-Check bags.
