Eliud Kipchoge Completes World Marathon Majors Cycle and Ends Professional Career
On November 2, 2025, at the age of 40, Eliud Kipchoge concluded the most significant chapter of his career by crossing the New York Marathon finish line. The legendary Kenyan runner completed all six medals of the Abbott World Marathon Majors series, officially earning the title of Six Star Finisher. The New York race was his 24th career marathon and was symbolically declared his last major professional start.
Although Kipchoge, famous for his mantra “no human is limited”, is a two-time Olympic champion and an 11-time winner of Majors marathons, his final performance was not his best. He finished the race in 2:14:36, placing 17th, which was his slowest time and lowest classification result. Nonetheless, this start, as his third marathon in one year, was a challenge in itself, and its significance lay in the symbolic completion of the world’s six major marathons.

Among Kipchoge’s historic achievements, beyond official victories in Berlin, London, Chicago, and Tokyo, is the unofficial breaking of the two-hour barrier with a time of 1:59:40 in Vienna in 2019 (INEOS 1:59 Challenge). His journey to the “Six Stars” began with a victory in Chicago in 2014 and included triumphs in every other location except New York and Boston, where he secured lower rankings.
Additionally, in August 2025, the Kenyan participated in the Sydney Marathon. Although the Sydney Marathon is officially part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors as a partner event, it does not count towards the Six Star Finisher medal. Kipchoge ran a strong race there with a time of 2:08:31, placing ninth.
