Cape Town Marathon 2027: Lottery and Key Registration Dates
The Cape Town Marathon 2027 introduces a full entry system similar to the world’s major marathons. Submitting an application does not guarantee a bib – entry is determined through the lottery (ballot), charity entries, International Tour Operators (ITO), and the Candidacy Club. For runners, this means choosing a strategy: rely on luck in the ballot, target a charity entry, or secure a spot through an official tour operator.
In 2027, timing is especially important. Registration windows are short, and each entry category opens on different dates. The ballot is available for only two weeks, and the results are released on the same day that charity and ITO entries open. If you plan to run, you must act quickly and have a backup plan in case your ballot entry is unsuccessful.

It’s important to note that ITO (International Tour Operators) are official travel partners of the marathon. For many international runners, this is the most reliable way to secure a bib, especially if the ballot does not go in their favor.
