Cape Town Marathon 2027: Abbott World Marathon Majors Draw

The entry window for the Abbott World Marathon Majors draw for the Cape Town Marathon 2027 closes on September 9, 2026 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time. The race itself will take place on May 23, 2027. The draw is scheduled for September 10, and results — following the usual timeline — will be published the next day, on September 11 in the Runner Portal. The minimum qualification level required to enter the draw is three AbbottWMM stars.

Who Can Enter the Draw?

To enter the draw, a runner must have at least three Abbott World Marathon Majors stars and an active AbbottWMM account. Being selected in the draw does not grant a free race entry — participants must still pay the official race fee to receive their bib. Runners who have already secured a place in another AbbottWMM draw for the 2027 season cannot obtain an additional entry in the same draw cycle.

How to Enter the Draw

To enter, runners must log in to their AbbottWMM account and navigate to the Race Draws section. All active draws are listed under Active Race Draws. If the runner meets the requirements, the system will allow them to submit an entry; if not, it will display the reason for ineligibility. Draw results will appear in the Runner Portal and will also be sent via email. Selected runners must accept or decline their place.

Additional Entries Through AbbottWMM Challenges

Runners can increase their chances by earning additional entries through Road to the Majors challenges and AbbottWMM virtual half marathons. Each completed challenge adds one entry, provided it has not been used in another draw. All additional entries are visible in the Global Run Club section of the Runner Portal, and completed challenges with their results appear under Completed Draw Results.

Gold Club — Separate Draw

A separate draw is available for Gold Club members with an active subscription. The number of available places is not disclosed. Gold Club members do not need to meet the star requirement and may participate even if they have previously completed the Cape Town Marathon.

How the AbbottWMM Process Works

All draw entries are managed through the Runner Portal, where runners can check their eligibility, entry count, draw status and results. Entries must be confirmed during the two‑week registration window. Selected runners must accept or decline their place, and any unclaimed entries return to the pool and are reassigned to other participants.
