The star currently holds provisional status and will be fully validated once the marathon successfully completes its second evaluation phase in 2026. For runners, this means their achievement is already recorded in the system, with the final decision depending on the event’s assessment.

How To View Your Star in the AbbottWMM Runner Portal?
Log in to the AbbottWMM Runner Portal → click “Your Stars” → scroll down.
You will see your provisional star assigned for the Cape Town Marathon 2026.

The decision to award a provisional star to all finishers was made after the 2025 edition was cancelled for safety reasons. It was a gesture of support for runners who planned to race in South Africa and were part of the event’s candidacy process.

Star Validation Rules

The star earned at the Cape Town Marathon 2026 will receive full status if the race successfully completes the second evaluation phase in the AbbottWMM candidacy process. If approved, Cape Town will become the first African marathon in the Majors series.

The 2026 edition also hosted the AbbottWMM Age Group World Championships. Participants in these championships receive the same provisional star under identical rules.

Note: The Cape Town Marathon remains a candidate event for AbbottWMM. However, all indications suggest it may join the series starting in 2027.
