Analysis and Interesting Facts
The 2024 New York City Marathon was exceptional in many ways. Among the men, Abdi Nageeye made history as the first Dutchman ever to win this race. In the women’s competition, the entire podium was claimed by Kenyans, with Sheila Chepkirui taking the victory just seconds ahead of defending champion Hellen Obiri. Notably, the TOP 10 in both the men’s and women’s races included several American athletes, highlighting the rising standard of American marathon running. In the wheelchair division, American athletes made history—both Daniel Romanchuk and Susannah Scaroni claimed victory. For Romanchuk, it was his third New York title, while Scaroni won the event for the second time. This marked the first time in history that both major wheelchair categories were won by Americans.
