Sydney Marathon 2025: Course Guide

Discover the details of the Sydney Marathon 2025 route – key locations, the toughest climbs, and the most beautiful views on the way to the finish line. Detailed information about the start schedule is available in a separate, full article.

Sydney Marathon 2025 Course Guide

Start: North Sydney (Miller Street)

The race begins near North Sydney Oval – a place of exceptional historical significance. The first kilometers allow for a smooth start on a wide route.

Sydney Harbour Bridge (km 2-3)

The most famous point of the course – a picturesque crossing of the Harbour Bridge with views of the Opera House and the city skyline, including about 20 meters of elevation gain.

City Centre and Circular Quay (up to km 8)

The route runs through Sydney’s center, passing flat terrain around Circular Quay, allowing runners to pick up the pace in comfortable conditions.

Segment 8–16 km

After running through Sydney’s city center and around Circular Quay, the course heads towards Pyrmont and Darling Harbour, where difficult and tight sections have been removed and replaced with longer, simpler stretches. This allows runners to stabilize their pace and recover strength after the first demanding kilometers.

On this part of the route, there are the first two cheering zones in Sydney CBD (around 11.9 km and 13.1 km), providing runners with support and extra motivation. Additionally, at 15.4 km is the famous “party zone” at Taylor Square, bustling with energy and cheers, making this section of the course exceptionally lively and engaging.

After leaving Taylor Square, the route opens onto a long, wide, and straight stretch along Anzac Parade.

Anzac Parade (km 16-28)

A long, straight section where runners can stabilize their rhythm, supported by cheering crowds near Taylor Square.

Centennial Park (km 30-34)

A well-known endurance challenge section, demanding both physically and mentally.

Hyde Park, Art Gallery Road, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair (km 35-40)

The last tougher climb on the course, testing runners’ strength and strategy just before the finish.

Finish: Sydney Opera House

A spectacular finish against the backdrop of the iconic Sydney Opera House – a marathon finale with an unforgettable atmosphere.

The marathon start is divided into three zones: RED, GREEN, and ORANGE, with different gathering points and start entry times, facilitating organization and runner comfort. Details on the zones, arrival times, and start are available in my separate guide: “Sydney Marathon 2025 – Start Schedule”.
