This form of participation requires not only paying the registration fee (usually between £50–£100) but, above all, raising a certain amount for the chosen charity – in my case, the MACS organization.
• Donation to MACS: £400
With a charity place, you commit to raising a minimum amount for the organization. In practice, most charities require raising from £1500 up to even £2750, but each organization sets its own thresholds. I chose MACS, where the minimum amount was lower, which allowed me to achieve the goal without the pressure of raising several thousand pounds.
• Insurance: £20
Basic travel and sports insurance that provides peace of mind during the trip.
• Hotel (5 days): £820
Accommodation in central London during the marathon period is the biggest expense – prices are significantly higher at this time, and places fill up quickly, so booking in advance is crucial.
• Plane tickets: £145
The cost of round-trip flights, depending on the departure location and booking time.
• Food: £120
Proper nutrition before and after the race is key, and meal prices in London are high.
• Maurten energy gels: £26
Specialized gels that help maintain energy during the race.
• EXPO: £260
Shopping and attractions during the race expo, where you collect the starter pack and can purchase sports equipment.
• Airalo internet: £15
An internet package that allows you to stay in touch and use navigation in London.
• Public transport: £30
Getting around the city by metro and buses is a convenient solution for marathon participants.
The total cost of participating in the London Marathon 2025 was £1936.
Why Charity Place and How Much Does It Cost?
Not everyone knows that getting a place in the London Marathon through the ballot is very difficult – in 2025, over 840,000 people applied. That’s why many people choose a charity place. In exchange for a guaranteed start, you must raise a certain amount for the chosen organization.

• If you want lower costs, try the ballot – the entry fee for international participants is £225, and for UK residents £69.99.
