Chicago Marathon 2025 – Record $756 Million Impact on the City’s Economy

Fresh economic data confirms that the Bank of America Chicago Marathon remains one of the most influential sporting events in the United States. According to an independent analysis by Jones & Associates Economics, the 2025 edition generated an impressive $756 million for the Chicago metropolitan area, marking a 7.5% increase compared to the previous year.

Growth in Participation and Local Market Impact

A total of 55,744 runners and visitors traveled to Chicago, representing a 4% increase from 2024. The event supported more than 5,100 full-time-equivalent jobs, with hotels, dining and entertainment driving the majority of spending. More than 75% of participants arrived from outside Illinois, significantly boosting tourism-related revenue.

Record-Breaking Charitable Impact

The marathon’s charity program also reached new heights. Official fundraising totaled $47.1 million, while the broader charitable impact exceeded $136 million, a 27% increase. These funds support nonprofit organizations locally, nationally and globally.

Chicago Marathon 2026 – Looking Ahead

The 48th edition of the marathon will take place on October 11, 2026. Runners from more than 100 countries and all 50 U.S. states will gather at Grant Park. The course once again leads through 29 Chicago neighborhoods, offering a unique cultural and architectural journey. More than one million spectators line the streets each year, creating one of the most energetic atmospheres in road racing.

From October 8–10, the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo will be held at McCormick Place — an essential stop for all participants.
