The BMW Berlin Marathon 2025 covers 42.195 km through the heart of Germany’s capital. Recognized as one of the fastest marathon courses in the world, it winds through 10 districts of Berlin, including Charlottenburg, Moabit, Tiergarten, Mitte, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln, and Wilmersdorf. The start and finish lines are located on Straße des 17. Juni — with the Brandenburg Gate behind you and the Victory Column ahead.

This is a record-breaking course, with minimal elevation gain, making it ideal for runners aiming to set a personal best. Participants run through a vibrant mix of history, modern architecture, and enthusiastic crowds.

Blue Line and Distance Markers

A blue line is painted along the course — this marks the officially measured marathon distance. Stick close to it to avoid running extra meters. Each kilometer is clearly marked, helping runners maintain their pace. If you’re used to miles, it’s a good idea to prepare some conversions in advance.

Aid Stations – Where and What to Expect

During the Berlin Marathon 2025, organizers provide a well-distributed network of aid stations throughout the course. This is a crucial part of your race strategy — proper hydration and fueling can make or break your performance. Water is available at every station, while selected locations also offer Maurten Drink Mix 160, tea, fruit, and Maurten Gel 100 energy gels.

Keep in mind that all drinks are served in rigid plastic cups, which can be tricky to drink from while running. If you use your own hydration system (soft flasks, belts, or hydration packs), you’ll be able to refill them at every station.

Personal Drinks – How to Deliver Them

You can provide your own drinks at designated stations located at kilometers 9, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 36. Each bottle must be clearly labeled with your name, bib number, and intended drop-off location. Delivery takes place in the “Eigenverpflegung” zone between 7:00 and 7:45 AM on race day.

Pacers and Time Limits

Berlin offers pacers for finish times ranging from 3:00 to 5:00 hours. The race starts in four waves:

• Wave 1 (9:15): ABCD
• Wave 2 (9:45): EF
• Wave 3 (10:10): GHJ
• Wave 4 (10:40): K

The overall time limit to complete the marathon is 6 hours and 15 minutes from your individual start. You must reach the 33 km checkpoint by 15:50 and the 38 km mark by 16:35.

Toilets, Medical Support & Recovery

Toilets are available after every hydration station. Medical assistance is provided at each water point and every kilometer from 36 km onward. Mobile medical teams begin patrolling from the 15 km mark.

After the race, runners have access to showers, changing areas, and free massage services — also available along the course every 5 km starting from 25 km.

Start Area – How to Prepare

The start line is located in Tiergarten, on Straße des 17. Juni. Entry is restricted to runners wearing their wristband and bib number. It’s recommended to arrive at least 70 minutes before your wave start.

The gear check system is efficient — bags are handed over to trucks assigned by bib number. If you didn’t select the gear bag option during registration, you’ll receive a poncho after the race. This is a convenient solution, especially if you want to avoid waiting in line for bag retrieval.
