Shanghai Marathon 2025: Results
The Shanghai Marathon 2025 started exactly at 7:00 AM to the accompaniment of bells from the Shanghai Customs House. Twenty-three thousand runners set off from the Bund Bull on the Bund, creating a vibrant symphony for the city. City President Gong Zheng unveiled the route map and fired the starting gun.
In the full marathon, the men’s winner was Ethiopian Milkesa Mengsha with a time of 2:06:25. The women’s title was claimed by Kenyan Brigid Kosgei, setting a historic result of 2:16:36.
Women’s Course Record Broken After Six Years
Brigid Kosgei’s achievement is a historic moment. She broke the previous women’s course record of 2:20:38, set by Yebrgual Melese Arage in 2018. The new record of 2:16:36 underscores the growing importance of the Shanghai Marathon, attracting more elite athletes and setting new standards in Chinese marathon running. Among Chinese athletes, the national championships were won by Feng Peiyou with a time of 2:08:36 and Zhang Deshun with a result of 2:25:13.

The marathon finisher medal, created in collaboration with Shanghai Mint, combines sporting achievement with the city’s identity.
