Costs of Participating in the Berlin Marathon 2025

Before you line up at the start, it’s worth knowing how much the whole thing actually costs. Because it’s not just the entry fee — it’s the logistics, accommodation, food, gear, and other expenses that can catch you off guard. Below I break down my participation in the 51st edition with exact numbers so you can better plan your budget.

Race-related fees

Let’s start with the basics: the entry fee was €200. That’s the standard price if you register through the lottery or qualify with a fast time. I also signed up for the Generali 5K the day before — that cost me €34.50. It’s optional, but a great way to warm up and soak in the atmosphere.

I also went for the finisher tee — €40. You can live without it, but for me it’s a keepsake worth having. Insurance cost €10 — not mandatory, but I prefer peace of mind.

Accommodation and transport

The biggest expense was the hotel — €513 for 3 nights in central Berlin. You can go cheaper or stay further from the start, but I wanted everything close by. I took the train to Berlin — €120 round trip. Bought tickets early, so I didn’t overpay.

On site, the organizers provide a 4-day public transport pass (ABC zones), so that was €0. Big plus — no worries about getting to the EXPO, the start line, or back from the finish.

Food and supplements

I spent around €100 on food. Ate out every day, but breakfast was included at the hotel. I also brought 8 Maurten gels — my go-to fuel for race day — €26. I don’t experiment with new stuff on race day, so I packed what I know works.

EXPO and other expenses

The EXPO isn’t just about picking up your race packet. It’s also a place to buy gear, grab some gadgets, drink alcohol-free beer, and chat with other runners. I spent €180 there. You can drop a lot of cash, or nothing at all — depends on your vibe.

Cost Summary

Conclusion

The Berlin Marathon isn’t just a race — it’s a whole experience that comes with a price tag. My total cost came to €1223.50. Could it be cheaper? Absolutely. A more affordable hotel, skipping EXPO shopping, or passing on the finisher tee — it all depends on what matters to you. If you’re planning to run, it’s smart to be aware of these costs and prepare your budget in advance.
