Berlin Marathon 2024 – Results of the 50th Anniversary Edition
On September 29, 2024, the streets of Berlin for the fiftieth time turned into an arena for the world’s best marathoners and tens of thousands of amateurs. The anniversary edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon attracted as many as 54,280 participants, making this race one of the largest in marathon history. The fast, flat course, excellent organization, and unique atmosphere once again resulted in outstanding performances, and the competition was extremely fierce.
Men’s Elite – Ethiopian with the Title, Kenyan Close Behind
In the men’s competition, Milkesa Mengesha from Ethiopia triumphed with an excellent time of 2:03:17. This result places him among the world’s elite and confirms that Berlin remains a place where records and great sporting stories are born. Second place went to Cybrian Kotut from Kenya (2:03:22), and the podium was completed by another Ethiopian – Haymanot Alew (2:03:31). The fight for victory was decided only in the final meters, and the time differences at the top were minimal.

Women’s Elite – Ethiopian Podium and a Great Result for Tigist Ketema
Among the women, Tigist Ketema from Ethiopia proved unbeatable, winning with a time of 2:16:42. This result confirms her world-class level and the dominance of Ethiopian female runners on the Berlin course. Second place was taken by Mestawot Fikir (2:18:48), and third was Bosena Mulatie (2:19:00) – both also from Ethiopia. Thus, the entire podium belonged to runners from this country, showing the strength of Ethiopian marathon running.

Record Participation and Unique Atmosphere
This year’s Berlin Marathon was completed by as many as 54,280 runners, making this edition one of the largest in the history of world marathons. At the start were athletes from nearly 150 countries, and the number of women exceeded 18,500. The average finish time was 4:09:44, and for women 4:28:46. The course led through Berlin’s most famous sites, including the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz, and Unter den Linden, giving this marathon a unique climate and exceptional setting.
Wheelchair Winners
In the wheelchair competition, the winners were both Swiss: Marcel Hug (1:27:18) among men and Catherine Debrunner (1:35:23) among women. Hug claimed his ninth victory in Berlin, and Debrunner her third.
