Berlin Marathon 2025 Results
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the streets of Berlin once again hosted the world’s elite long-distance runners. The 51st edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon unfolded under exceptionally harsh weather — high temperatures and humidity forced many athletes to adjust their strategies early in the race. Nevertheless, the competition was fierce, and spectators witnessed remarkable endurance and grit.
Sabastian Sawe – A champion in the heat
Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe claimed victory with a time of 2:02:16. Although the conditions weren’t ideal for record-breaking, Sawe maintained a world-record pace for the first few kilometers. He had to slow down slightly in the second half, but still secured a decisive win.
Japanese surprise – Akira Akasaki
Akira Akasaki from Japan took second place, surging from behind with a phenomenal second half. His time of 2:06:12 was not only a personal best but also a testament to the growing strength of Japanese marathoners. Three Japanese runners made it into the TOP 10 — alongside Akasaki were Yuhei Urano (2:07:35) and Shin Kimura (2:08:37).
