The upper holds the foot well, does not cause chafing, and works well during dynamic runs. The material is lightweight, but not the most breathable.

Sole and Cushioning

The Rival Fly 3 is a classic “old-school” racing shoe—speed here is achieved by reducing weight, not by using modern technologies. Cushioning is minimal, especially in the forefoot. The shoes perform well on short distances (5–10 km), but on longer runs, the lack of protection for the joints becomes noticeable. I would not recommend this model for runners weighing over 80 kg.

Dynamics and Running Impressions

The shoes are lightweight, but do not offer the dynamics known from models with composite or carbon plates. Responsiveness is average—Rival Fly 3 does not encourage very fast running, although it allows you to maintain a strong pace on short distances. The biggest advantage is the good ground feel and direct contact with the asphalt.

Grip and Durability

The rubber outsole, especially under the forefoot, provides good grip even on wet surfaces. After over 200 km of use, there are no significant signs of wear, which is a pleasant surprise in this price range.

Summary

Nike Air Zoom Rival Fly 3 is a shoe that does not surprise with innovations, but offers solid quality at an attractive price. It’s a good option for runners looking for a lightweight, affordable model for short races or tempo runs, who don’t need much cushioning and like to feel the asphalt under their feet. If you weigh less than 80 kg and don’t expect a “wow” effect, the Rival Fly 3 will meet your basic expectations.

Final Ratings:

• Comfort: 2/5
• Cushioning: 1/5
• Dynamics: 2/5
• Grip: 2/5
• Durability: 3/5

Average rating: 2/5

Want to know my thoughts on other models?

Check out the section called Running Shoe Reviews, where I regularly publish detailed evaluations of running shoes.

Nike Air Zoom Rival Fly 3 – review.
