Officially, you can’t use them in major competitions (like World Championships or World Marathon Majors) because of their stack height – a massive 50 mm at the heel! But how do they perform in everyday training after more than 300 kilometers of use?

Basic Parameters:

• Type: Training/racing hybrid
• Weight: 251 g (EU 42.5)
• Drop: 8.5 mm (50 mm/41.5 mm)

Comfort and Cushioning

The Prime X is a true “giant” when it comes to cushioning. The Lightstrike Pro foam combined with Energy Rods and Energy Blades provides not only excellent shock absorption, but also outstanding energy return. I rate comfort a solid 7/10 – the upper is light and breathable, keeping your foot cool even during long, intense sessions. The Prime X offers plenty of space in the forefoot, which will be appreciated by runners with a wide foot or high instep. However, comfort wasn’t perfect for me. The original lacing system caused pressure on one of my feet – enough that I had to change my lacing method to be able to run comfortably. Only after this adjustment did the shoes become acceptable for longer distances, but my first impressions were far from ideal. It’s precisely because of this lacing issue and the pressure on one foot that I decided to lower my comfort rating.

Responsiveness and Speed

This shoe is made for running fast over long distances. Responsiveness is definitely the Prime X’s strongest suit – 10/10. Every step feels springy, and the energy returned by the sole makes it easier to maintain a high pace, especially on asphalt.

Grip and Durability

The Continental rubber on the outsole guarantees excellent grip, both on dry and wet roads. I rate durability at 8/10 – after 300 km, the shoes still look great, with no visible signs of excessive wear.

Stability – Who Is the Prime X For?

This isn’t a shoe for everyone. The high stack and very dynamic construction mean stability is lacking. The Prime X requires excellent core strength and full focus on running technique. Every sharp turn is a potential risk for rolling your ankle – a moment’s distraction can end in injury.

The Prime X is a proposition for experienced runners who know their bodies and are looking for a tool to run fast over long distances—half marathon or marathon. If you can run comfortably below 4:30/km and know how to work on stability, these shoes will give you an edge and help you set new records. For beginners or those running at slower paces, I recommend looking for something safer.

Summary

The Adidas Adizero Prime X is a shoe that impresses with its responsiveness and cushioning, but it demands a lot from the runner. If you’re ready for the challenge – give them a try, you won’t regret it!

Final Ratings:

• Comfort: 7/10
• Cushioning: 9/10
• Responsiveness: 10/10
• Grip: 9/10
• Durability: 8/10

Want to know my thoughts on other models?

Check out the section called Running Shoe Reviews, where I regularly publish detailed evaluations of running shoes.

Adidas Adizero Prime X – review after 300 km!
